Ronald Wilson Reagan (1911– 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989). After a career in film and television he stepped into politics, first as the Governor of California, then at the White House...

In 1984 he was re-elected as a President in a landslide, proclaiming it was "Morning in America". His second term was marked by foreign matters, like the ending of the Cold War, the bombing of Libya, and the Iran-Contra affair...

Describing the Soviet Union as an "evil empire", Reagan negotiated with the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev the decrease of their nuclear arsenals. He will be remembered especially across Europe for his speech at the Brandenburg Gate, in divided Berlin, on 12 June 1987. Ronald Reagan then challenged publicly Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall!"
