Surviving Death, Željko Kopanja

Zeljko_Kopanja

Željko Kopanja is a Bosnian Serb newspaper editor of "Nezavisne Novine", one of Bosnia's main dailies, published in Banja Luka. The paper Kopanja founded and owns was the first in Republika Srpska to cover Serb war crimes, corruption and embezzlement. ("Pobjediti sam sebe..." )

After receiving warnings and even death threats, on 22 October 1999 Zeljko Kopanja was seriously wounded by a car bomb. He was clinically dead and lost both his legs. The perpetrators have not been found yet. Kopanja continues to write for "Nezavisne Novine" and run the paper. An FBI investigation supported Kopanja's claim that Serb security forces planted the bomb.

Željko Kopanja talks here about the price of his recovery and who he thinks tried to  kill him.
